Age of Mythology... the game derived from Age of Empires that has yet inspired the design of Age of Empires 3 and Age of Empires Online.... but what makes it so popular?

Its Scenario Design capabilities, until last year were entirely unmatched. No game had such a powerful scenario editor.
Its moddability, I have created countless mods for this game, as have so many others, some good some bad.
Its competitiveness, the game is very hard compared to its predecessors, its hard to play due to the importance of counter units and town centres cannot just be built, you need to find a settlement!

Those are the three main points, and yet it is the entire reason I have played this since I was 9. Now, at 18 nearly 10 years on, I am still playing. The decade of Age of Mythology has nearly been met, and my addiction to the scenario editor has been a continuous one. I have never left Age of Mythology, never. I had gained an addiction to the online after a while too. After 2 years I was recruited into DoL, Destroyers of Lives. A castle blood clan, one that was... pretty noobish. I was considered back then as one of the stronger players, and one of the few that could take on three players at once, I have long since lost this capability as I moved on once I found bloodsport... another genre, and where 'BSU', another clan I started derives. To this day an unbeaten clan with only 3 leaders. It was to the uttermost eliteness, as in our whole existance, we only deemed one user capable of working with our tactics, which proved effective and has won us a good 75+ games. But, 2 years after, I found WRP, and a year after that I formed HoR with a good friend of mine Necro. I have met many good friends around ESO, but none such that of Yankee. You have always stayed by my side, and as there are many other great friends I have had out there, our friendship has remained unbroken despite what we go through. Thus I am proud to say I met you, and this is where I get to the bad news.

Unfortunately, this speech was written for a reason, as are all speeches, and it is with great regret, that I announce my AoM disc is now scratched to the extent it cannot be read by my computer. I will hopefully be able to play on vanilla and will get a new disc soon. If you know where I can find one or a way to fix scratches please state here.

The best place to get a new disk would be Amazon. For Repairs, Go To Game or another sort of Game stores. They do disk repairs there, Which is done by shaving off a layer of metal, removing the scratch but not damaging the Data. Other then that, :'( and I hope this helps.

Thanks for the heartfelt speech. Smile I am flattered that our short time playing/working/arguing together has meant that much to you. Very Happy

I bought a never-used, still wrapped Ubisoft Exclusive: Gold Edition + Add-on Disc for 10 pounds on Amazon. You could start there. As for mine...

I installed it when I wasn't able to come on. It also didn't work. Then Godfrog told me what a possibility for my problem was and I installed my normal Gold Edition disc that I had before and it worked. I did not check if the Ubisoft Exclusive one worked or not afterward.

I told you I was coaxing my girlfriend to try this game because she is very creative and she sort of liked the idea of RP. I think it is safe to say that will not happen though. I kept this disc just in case she might start, but you might need it more. If you have no other alternative, I would be willing to send it to you, seeing as I don't need it.

Light bulb method

Note: This method does not always work, but it's fairly simple and worth a shot when you're trying everything.

1. Turn on your desktop lamp, or any other lamp with a 60 watt incandescent filament bulb (DJs usually use the small lamp they use for finding their CDs).

2. Hold the CD with your forefinger in the center opening and the recorded side towards the lamp. The distance from the bulb should be about 10cm (4 inches).

3. Hold the CD in place for about 20 seconds, rotating it slowly around your forefinger. Then, while it's still hot, play it in the CD drive.

Don't hold the disc near the light bulb for more than 20 seconds. Even a 60W bulb produces enough heat to melt the CD if exposed longer than 30-40 seconds.

I can also go on AoM Vanilla anytime, and if you run into CD Key problems. You can still send into support and they will still send you a new one...

Uhm ebay / amazon etc will probably have someone selling their AoM. Other than that, I once for some unknown reason lost my age of empires 2 expansion CD. (I think someone stole it or something idk, borrow and then not give it back or some lame shit).

And like, what the fuck, half a year ago or so, I found this edition at a local shop containing aoe1 to aoe2 expansion for a miserable amount of money.

That said, I never expected that either since that is an even older game, award winning or not it was so old that I thought they'd never resell some random editions. And it means there is still hope for you to maybe find it in a store somewhere, aom that is, as gold edition.

I'd also ask around with some real life friends etc. Back when AoM was new, it was silly that there were some random people who said they also had AoM when I mentioned it, but they said they never played it online.. stupid fuckers Razz

where there is a will.. right? :p

Did the freezer method work? Lava told me it expands the metal...

Firstly, CDs are both metal and plastic. Any scratches, if not too deep, are on the plastic. If you scratched the metal then you it won't work again no matter what you do. Secondly, neither plastic nor metal expands when cooled down. Only water expands when frozen, that is why it is the exception among states of matter.

...Beside the point. Try the light bulb method if nothing else works. It should melt the sharp edges of the scratch and round it out. That could make it readable.

Torrent? That's old school. You can for sure find it as downloadable rar. parts.

Of course not, but from experience after torrenting, my game had some bugs like some triggers not working properly. I prefer the rar. parts.

As a member of Heavengames I signed a contract meaning they can see my search history etc, if they recognize that as a torrent then legal action would be taken against that. PLus the UK has enforced a sort of spyware act, meaning they can see everything we do that is illegal (They can fish out suspicious sites and emails)

Lol, sucks to be you.

Here in Switzerland there is a loophole. If you torrent or download anything, piracy in general, it is "illegal". I put that in quotations because the whole Swiss-based internet networking system is set up that the free downloading and such can be traced, but is confidential. In a nutshell: The government says it is illegal and can be penalized, but they do not see it happen because who did what on their computer is under a law similar to the doctor/patient confidentiality agreement, this case being Servers/End-users, therefore there is no observable crime. Awesome loophole of epicness.

I doubt anybody would really bother to pursue taking legal action against you for torrenting a game, especially one that is actually discontinued and thus making the producer no money.

Incorrect, AoM is still supported by the Microsoft Legal team, in fact AoE2 had a legal suit recently...
