1 I need a nerd on Mon Mar 07, 2011 5:41 pm

Hey guys, I recently downloaded "Nottud's Ultimate Superpack" from the AOM haven site so I could upgrade my game. However, whenever I try to unzip it and extract from winzip, somthing like this always comes up:

Error: Access is denied.
Cannot create E:/AOM/whateverItrytoextract

Then it says I can try to extract the next one if I like, but its always the same.

Also, I tried to install the rotate mod alone into the startup folder before this, but it would always say that the files are "Read only" and it wouldn't let the file in. I think it may be related to the fact that the Gamex file inside the startup folder can't be viewed. I tried using notepad, but when I do, an error message box comes up saying it can't be found. Every other file in the folder can, though, and so can the rotate mod.

IF it helps, my computer is a Windows XP on a Dell (that's a million years old) someone please respond and HELP MEEEEEEEEEE!!!! affraid

yes it does

you need to right click on winzip (the program, not the files) and run as administrator, then locate it and extract!

I had to do the same, being a scenario designer you cant live without it!

So wait, I just need to right click the winzip file, not everything inside it, then extract it to aom? And the files would go where they are suposed to go automaticly, like the guy from AOM haven posted? And would I have to do anything else after, like unzip while they are in AOM? (And is that even possible?)

Well when I have the time to get to my computer this afternoon, I will be sure to try it.

1 more thing:I forgot to mention that when I saw the "Read only thing I tried to make it so that the AOM files would let other files besides read only into them by changing them with the properties option when you right click them. However, There would always be a dozen errors popping up and I coulden't change it. I had options to ignore the errors or retry, but those didn't work. If the solution you suggested, Hades, dosen't work, then this will be a little bit more info for someone else to use. (Not that your suggestion isn't helpful...)

And now for the afro smily: afro

what? XD

I meant you need to open WINZIP as an application by running as admin, then extracting everything

...Yea, that was over necessarily complicated, wasn't it?

Anyways, I was pretty sure I was already logged in as administrator when I tried it, and at first, it looked good. It showed the AOM file within the disc drive file and there was even a little bar showing progress that took five seconds to fill up. But then I noticed the window full of errors labeled, "ACCESS DENIED." Shocked

My guess is that I'm wrong and all these years I haven't been using the right account for logging on my computer. I'll try to use those and see what happens.

Oh, and thanks for making sure I was on the administrator account!! Very Happy

...I love these smileys so much! lol!

Just noticed I wasn't logged in when I did that. So much for the "LOG ME IN EVERY VISIT" check box. Evil or Very Mad

Alright, just tried it-it didn't work.

But I think I got one more clue here: Manny of the errors that came up with access denied mentioned that the disc was locked. This may or may not be important (probably is) but just try to... erm... solve.. to the best of your abilities? Erm...

Yea, I'm not good with pep talks through the internet. geek

try re-installing, sorry to come to this measure

but make sure again you are on your admin account, and right-clicking on the shortcut for AoM and pressing "Run as Admin" After you have logged on

Yea, my disc is so scrached, it can't be reinstalled, it can only run the program when I put it in, which, now that I think about it, may be the problem...

...Wait, what did you just say?

Alright, I tried, and it didn't work. I won't say how, I just know that I can't get the installments into the aom files.

So I got a question.. The download version... Do you need to be running it as administrator to change the files in that one?

Its not a game problem, and I doubt that the people at the haven could help me.

Lets just say my parents are VERY forgetful and move on.
